Workshop

Communications planning for non-profits.

Do you really need to be on social media?

Carleton University's Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership department
invites you to this full-day workshop on Monday, June 10th 2013. Please pass
this message along to your networks.

Description

Glossy brochures, social media, an interactive website and front-page media
are the glitz and glamour of a communications campaign. But, deciding what
approach to take requires careful consideration so that precious funds are
put to the best use. Unfortunately, the need for more volunteers, clients
and supporters leads many charities to cast their communications net at the
'general public'. without result.

In this full-day working session, you'll be guided through the process to
create an effective communications plan, from measurable objectives, to
target audiences, to decisions between communications materials. Together
we'll develop your strategy and then determine the approach that actually
reaches your target audience and motivates them to take action.

Agenda

1. Why have a communications plan?

2. Who creates the communications plan?

3. Situation analysis: internal and external

4. Competition

5. Setting goals and objectives

6. Getting to know you: primary target audiences

7. Key messages

8. Communications tools and tactics: editorial calendar, website,
social media, pitching to media
