Hello all,

 

The Alliance to End Homelessness Ottawa applauds Canada’s Big City Mayors’
Caucus (BCMC) of the Federal of Canadian Municipalities and especially
Ottawa’s own Mayor Jim Watson for their focus on housing affordability and
availability at the federation’s May 30th–June 3rd conference. 

 

The Alliance itself calls on the Province of Ontario to create a growth
program linking jobs with building new affordable rental housing in addition
to its participation in the  federal/provincial/territorial program,
Investment in Affordable Housing (see the  2012 ATEH report card
<http://www.endhomelessnessottawa.ca/> ). The Alliance also continues to
call for a comprehensive National Housing Strategy and a much greater
federal investment in creating new affordable housing and in the
Homelessness Partnering Strategy.

 

The BCMC is calling for a new housing partnership by all orders of
government dedicated to:

§  Eliminating chronic homelessness through proven strategies 

§  Stimulating new rental and affordable housing construction with tax
incentives or other measures 

§  Preserving and renovating existing social housing units 

§  Housing workers to support a growing economy
