Good Morning Everyone,

The Ottawa Aboriginal Coalition (OAC), through funding received by the United Way/Centraide Ottawa, is providing a unique opportunity for Aboriginal youth, families and neighboring First Nation communities in the national capital region. In partnership with the National Gallery of Canada's Sakahàn: International Indigenous Art Exhibition, the OAC will offer a variety of Community Arts Programs, Workshops and Camps throughout the summer months designed to bring together the Aboriginal community in Ottawa, local artists and Indigenous artists participating in the Sakahàn exhibition.

PROGRAMS/WORKSHOPS/CAMPS:

Sakahàn Free Aboriginal Youth Summer Art Camps

(Weekdays 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.: July 15 - August 16, 2013):

Two camps designed for age groups 8 - 12 years and 13 - 18 years will provide Aboriginal youth with hands-on learning and instruction in traditional and contemporary Aboriginal art forms. With the direct support of Sakahan's Indigenous artists, as well as local artists and numerous visits to the National Gallery of Canada, Aboriginal youth will also create their own original artwork forms.

Initial registration can be completed online at: http//ottawaaboriginalcoalition.ca/sakahansummercamp

"Our Way" - Artists to Youth Workshop Series

(Saturdays 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.: June 22 - August 31, 2013):

This workshop series will incorporate traditional mentorship instruction, and will support the development of original works through community based projects and workshop series geared towards youth. Supported by Sakahan's Indigenous artists, as well as local artists, this workshop series is available to Aboriginal youth and families. Registration is required as space is limited to 25 participants per session.

"Our Stories" - Artist's Talk Series

(Sundays 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.: June 23 - September 1, 2013):

Sakahan's Indigenous artists, as well as local artists will describe their artistic journey, from the evolution of their "style" and artistic practice, relevant influences, to how they learned and mastered their art. Registration is required as space is limited to 25 participants per session.

All of the above programs will be offered on a first come first served basis, so please register early. For further information, please contact:
