USICH Releases New PHA Guidebook to Ending Homelessness

Across the country, a growing number of public housing authorities (PHAs) have become integral to their community's efforts to prevent and end homelessness.  This willingness to partner and engage in collaborative planning is critical to both local and national success in ending homelessness.

The new USICH PHA Guidebook provides guidance and the best practices that PHAs can use to strengthen their collaborative efforts.

PHAs play a critical role in providing affordable housing to extremely low-income households in their communities, and many have collaborated with community partners to plan how their resources can be used strategically to best support and align with efforts to prevent and end homelessness. For instance, partnering with a Continuum of Care, the local entity responsible for applying for HUD's Homelessness Assistance Grants, and with a Funders Collaborative to align resources and develop supportive and affordable housing, are two ways PHAs can help provide affordable housing.

However, the affordable housing resources administered by PHAs can be more effective in providing housing access and stability for people experiencing homelessness when implemented
