The Community Development and Homelessness Partnerships Directorate of Employment and Social Development Canada is pleased to invite you to a Homelessness Partnering Strategy webinar on Promising Practices: Research Results for the Mental Health and Justice Systems. This session will highlight promising practices in discharge planning in the context of (a) four mental health facilities in British Columbia and (b) the implementation of a pilot for a second stage housing program for the ‘hard to house’ leaving community-based residential facilities. The presenters will also address ongoing challenges in the implementation of such plans.

Presenters:

Matt Thomson, Principal of M. Thomson Consulting

Matt Thomson is an independent research and planning consultant with extensive experience in the field of housing and homelessness and principal of M. Thomson Consulting. Matt has worked on a number of research projects on homelessness, including best practices in outreach, homeless counts, homeless needs assessments and research on best practices in discharge planning to prevent homelessness.

Anita Desai, Research and Policy Advisor, St. Leonard’s Society of Canada

Anita joined St. Leonard's Society of Canada in 2009, conducting research on integrated and cooperative approaches for successful community reintegration of prisoners with mental health problems and illness. This has since developed into research initiatives on second stage housing for ex-offenders through work on the Homes for the 'Hard to House' project. Anita holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and a Masters of Art in Sociology from the University of Windsor and wrote her thesis on homelessness in mid-sized cities.

Sujet:           Résultats d’une étude pour les systèmes juridiques et de santé mentale

Description:

La Direction du développement communautaire et des partenariats de lutte contre l’itinérance, à Emploi et Développement social Canada, a le plaisir de vous inviter à participer à un webinaire de la Stratégie des partenariats de lutte contre l’itinérance sur le thème « Pratiques prometteuses : Résultats d’une étude pour les systèmes juridiques et de santé mentale ». Dans le cadre de cette séance, on soulignera les pratiques prometteuses de la planification des congés d’hospitalisation dans le contexte de (a) quatre établissements de santé mentale en Colombie-Britannique; (b) la mise en œuvre de la seconde étape d’un programme pilote de logement pour les personnes difficiles à loger quittant les établissements résidentiels communautaires. Les présentateurs aborderont aussi les défis permanents visant la mise en œuvre de tels plans.

Matt Thomson, directeur principal de M. Thomson Consulting, est un conseiller indépendant en recherche et en planification qui compte une vaste expérience dans le domaine de l’hébergement et de l’itinérance.  Matt a participé à un certain nombre de projets de recherche sur l’itinérance, y compris à l’égard des pratiques exemplaires sur le plan de la mobilisation, du dénombrement des personnes sans abri, de l’évaluation des besoins des personnes sans abri et de la recherche sur les pratiques exemplaires concernant la planification des congés d’hospitalisation pour prévenir l’itinérance.

Anita Desai, conseillère en recherche et en politiques, Société Saint-Léonard du Canada

Anita s’est jointe à la Société Saint-Léonard du Canada en 2009 pour réaliser des recherches sur les approches intégrées et coopératives pour assurer la réintégration réussie dans la collectivité des prisonniers ayant des problèmes de santé mentale et des maladies mentales. Depuis, elle se penche sur des initiatives de recherche concernant les maisons de seconde étape pour ex-délinquants dans le cadre de travaux réalisés pour le projet « L’hébergement pour les difficiles à loger ». Anita possède un baccalauréat ès arts en criminologie et une maîtrise ès arts en sociologie de l’Université de Windsor. Sa thèse portait sur l’itinérance dans les villes de taille moyenne.
