Hi folks,


Jim Watson has announced this morning that a Low Income Transit Pass will be in the 2017 budget.

You will notice the hordes of community folks at the announcement that he says they've been working with! My first reaction to this is "Beware Greeks bearing gifts." which is, of course, a reference to the Trojan Horse. Jim has obviously noticed a parade and has decided to get out in front of it. That way, he decides the length and route of the parade. 
He talks about a "discount', the amount to be announced in the budget. Well, $20 off a $112 pass is a discount but it's far from adequate. It's great that he's done an about-face from saying it's a provincial responsibility - now we need to be vigilant to ensure that whatever comes out of Budget 2017 is something that meets the needs of the low-income community. The battle is far from over, my friends!
Yes, I'm cynical. Maybe this will be the City's 2017 Legacy Project!!
