CPO Speaker Series

A Focus on Family Violence in Canada

The Chief Public Health Officer’s Report on the State of Public Health in Canada 2016 focused for the first time ever on family violence.  The report, “Public Health in Canada 2016:  A Focus on Family Violence in Canada<http://healthycanadians.gc.ca/publications/department-ministere/state-public-health-family-violence-2016-etat-sante-publique-violence-familiale/alt/pdf-eng.pdf>”  outlines the important health consequences of all aspects of violence in the family including partner assault, child abuse and elder abuse.  Come and learn more about this important data and be introduced to a new way of thinking, with a health lens, on this important safety issue.   To round out the dialogue, the keynote speaker will be followed by some examples of local programming that are reaching out to prevent violence.

Le Rapport de l’administrateur en chef de la santé publique sur l’état de la santé publique au Canada 2016 portait, pour la toute première fois, sur la violence familiale. Ce rapport, intitulé La santé publique au Canada 2016 : Regard sur la violence familiale au Canada<http://healthycanadians.gc.ca/publications/department-ministere/state-public-health-family-violence-2016-etat-sante-publique-violence-familiale/alt/pdf-fra.pdf> donne un aperçu des répercussions importantes sur la santé de la violence familiale sous tous ses aspects, y compris la violence conjugale, la violence faite aux enfants et la violence à l’égard des personnes âgées. Venez en apprendre davantage sur ces renseignements importants et découvrir une nouvelle façon d’envisager, sous l’optique de sa santé, ce grave problème de sécurité. Des exemples de programmes de sensibilisation locaux visant à prévenir la violence suivront l’exposé de la conférencière principale et viendront alimenter la discussion.
