Shepherds of Good Hope is one of the largest not-for-profit organization dedicated to the needs of homeless and vulnerably-housed in the city of Ottawa. We provide around-the-clock, comprehensive services to all genders, most of whom live with addictions, mental health challenges and trauma. From a 254 bed shelter, to our 5 supportive living residences across the City of Ottawa, over 450 individuals sleep in our facilities each night. POSITION(S):

2017- 081             Full-Time Front Line, Worker Transitional Emergency Shelter Program
Sunday to Thursday 11:00pm to 7:00am
Contract position until March 31, 2018 with the possibility of extension.

2017-082              Full-Time Front Line Worker, Transitional Emergency Shelter Program
Tuesday to Saturday 3:00pm to 11:00pm

2017-083              Regular Part-Time Front Line Worker(s), Transitional Emergency Shelter Program
1 position Friday to Monday 3:00pm-11:00pm
1 position Friday to Monday 11:00pm to 7:00am

PAY RATE:           $13.93 - $21.21 per hour, Unifor Local 8300 Wage Scale

YOU CAN OFFER US


*         Post-secondary education in Social Science or equivalent experience
*         Computer proficiency
*         Experience in maintaining accurate records and statistics
*         Demonstrated ability to use NVCI principles
*         Dependability and commitment to the program
*         Strong written and verbal communication skills
*         Human qualities such as compassion, caring, empathy and patience
*         Demonstrated problem solving skills and good judgement
*         Knowledge of mental health, addiction and poverty issues
*         Knowledge of food handling and safety
*         Able to work in a team environment
*         Able to support clients who are not steady on their feet
*         Able to work using a health promotion approach and harm reduction philosophies.
*         Must be able to lift up to 25 kg.

RESPONSIBILITIES


*         Provide support for the basic needs of a diverse population
*         Support clients through the maintenance of a clean and sanitary environment
*         Follow program procedures for distribution of alcohol, tobacco and other supplies
*         Record activities in the program log in accordance with the policies of the Shepherds of Good Hope
*         Establish a professional relationship with the client(s) for the purpose of meeting the residents' and program's needs; ensuring respect, dignity, and individuality of each resident and staff member
*         Working collaboratively with partnering agencies
*         Engage in client advocacy
*         Assist with serving meals and storing meals and engage with clients during meal service
*         Assist with storage and tracking of client and program property
*         Additional duties as required
*         Please note that employees can be transferred  to other programs based on operation requirements
