Hi Marlene,



As you’ve probably heard, Legal Aid Ontario’s budget was cut by 30%
following the Provincial government’s budget announcement on April 11,
2019. By next year, the cuts will increase to 40%, which will have a
drastic impact on the client communities that LAO and Legal Clinics serve.
Those impacted will be Ontario’s most vulnerable people, who are facing
additional cuts to our social safety nets. Access to justice is a
fundamental tenet of a healthy democracy. Taking away vital services from
people that need them most, further entrenches their marginalization.



As our friends and allies working together to end homelessness, to expand
tenant rights and to enact sound affordable housing policies, we are asking
you to support our fight to reverse the budget cuts.



Attached you will find ACTO’s letter on how the budget cuts will hurt
tenants. Will the Multifaith Alliance to End Homelessness (and/or any of
the other groups you are involved with) endorse our letter? The budget bill
hasn’t received Royal Assent. This means we are on a tight deadline to make
this letter public, united with our friends and allies.
