2020: A year in review

Although many of us will remember 2020 with great sorrow, when we look back we cannot forget the unwavering strength the homelessness sector has shown throughout this tumultuous year. Through swift and decisive action, many people experiencing, or at risk of homelessness were helped, and thousands of lives were saved.

At the Centre for Homelessness Impact, through the COVID-19 pandemic, our priority has been providing resources to help those working to end homelessness address the immediate needs of people experiencing homelessness, while also developing proposals for bringing about the longer term transformation of the sector.

Here we present some of the most popular and innovative projects that the CHI team brought to you this year.

SHARE platform
At the beginning of 2020 we launched SHARE - a new reporting platform<https://homelessnessimpact.us17.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6d65dd020f0daf0ce38d36e24&id=b7444e4fe8&e=c12d470479> to give insight into the conditions required to take a bird eye’s view and address the root causes of the problem, not just the symptoms.

COVID-19 response
In March, we understood that the pandemic was going to seriously impact people experiencing homelessness, and those working to support them. We launched our COVID-19 hub<https://homelessnessimpact.us17.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6d65dd020f0daf0ce38d36e24&id=6193a2419b&e=c12d470479> to support the sector.

Impact Festival
Although we weren't able to hold our Impact Forums, we realised it was more important than ever wanted to create a genuinely useful environment for people to meet, collaborate and learn. We created our Impact Festival<https://homelessnessimpact.us17.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6d65dd020f0daf0ce38d36e24&id=9916d25673&e=c12d470479> - 53 events and 150 speakers over 5 weeks of summer.

We also updated our Evidence and Gap Map on effectiveness<https://homelessnessimpact.us17.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6d65dd020f0daf0ce38d36e24&id=2adab03e8b&e=c12d470479>. We’re delighted that there has been a significant increase in the number of evaluations conducted in the last few years.

End it With Evidence
In December we launched the Centre's first campaign<https://homelessnessimpact.us17.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6d65dd020f0daf0ce38d36e24&id=9d5d9f2958&e=c12d470479> to mobilise, at this moment of great change, a growing chorus of ‘what works’ champions to ensure that, as part of aiming to end homelessness for good, we use this opportunity to understand how to end it effectively. How to end it sustainably. And importantly how to do the most good we can with existing resources.

As the year draws to a close we've taken the time to look back and reflect upon what we've learned as a team<https://homelessnessimpact.us17.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6d65dd020f0daf0ce38d36e24&id=b8b99c5c9c&e=c12d470479>. We're delighted with how far we've come, but we won't rest on our laurels. In 2021 we want to raise our game in achieving impact; to grow our reputation as a centre of expertise and person-led innovation; and to become more useful to everyone working to end homelessness for good. At a time when many have lost confidence in their ability to transform the homelessness system it’s more important than ever that we provide practical support and act as a catalyst for creative evidence-led ideas that make a real difference.

We look forward to working with change-makers in the sector to galvanise the evidence-led movement to end homelessness. Sign the End it With Evidence pledge. Join us.<https://homelessnessimpact.us17.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6d65dd020f0daf0ce38d36e24&id=9e92897d8f&e=c12d470479>
