Help Support the Development of the Implementation Plan of the Federal Framework to Reduce Recidivism

The Federal Framework to Reduce Recidivism<https://www.publicsafety.gc.ca/cnt/rsrcs/pblctns/2022-fdrl-frmwrk-rdc-rcdvsm/index-en.aspx> is the Government of Canada’s first step in putting together a plan that identifies crucial factors that impact why people reoffend and how to support safe and successful reintegration into the community. The goal: increase public safety by reducing recidivism, preventing victimization, addressing the overrepresentation of Indigenous People, Black Canadians and other marginalized groups in our criminal justice system, and ultimately, create safer communities.

Public Safety Canada is currently conducting engagement in support of the development of the implementation plan for the Framework. It is now in the second phase of its engagement, which is an opportunity to continue the conversation started a few months back.

During this time, Public Safety Canada will share back what was heard in the first phase of the engagement; it will also extend its understanding of the factors that promote, or detract from successful community reintegration, by exploring some key issues in greater detail.

Although all stakeholders invited to this engagement operate in one way or the other in the criminal justice sector, some are new to this specific conversation. The engagement portal will be open until February 26, and can accommodate up to an additional 200 participants. Public Safety Canada is particularly interested in feedback from stakeholders who provide services to individuals who have previously been incarcerated.

Le Cadre fédéral visant à réduire la récidive<https://www.securitepublique.gc.ca/cnt/rsrcs/pblctns/2022-fdrl-frmwrk-rdc-rcdvsm/index-fr.aspx> est la première étape du gouvernement du Canada dans l’élaboration d’un plan qui cerne les facteurs déterminants qui influent sur les motifs de récidive et sur la façon d’appuyer la réinsertion sociale sécuritaire et réussie. Objectif : Accroître la sécurité publique en réduisant la récidive, en prévenant la victimisation, en abordant à la surreprésentation des Autochtones, des Canadiens noirs et d’autres groupes marginalisés dans notre système de justice pénale et, en fin de compte, en créant des collectivités plus sécuritaires.

Sécurité publique Canada mobilise actuellement des intervenants à l’appui de l’élaboration du plan de mise en œuvre du Cadre. Le ministère a passé à la deuxième phase de la mobilisation : l'occasion de poursuivre la conversation qu’il a entamée il y a quelques mois.

Au cours de cette séance, Sécurité publique Canada partagera ce qui a été entendu lors de la première phase de mobilisation. Le ministère approfondira également sa compréhension des facteurs qui favorisent ou nuisent à une réinsertion communautaire réussie, en explorant plus en détail certaines questions clés.

Bien que tous les intervenants invités à cette séance de mobilisation sont impliqués d’une manière ou d'une autre dans le secteur de la justice pénale, certains se joignent à la conversation pour la première fois. Le portail de mobilisation est ouvert jusqu’au 26 février, et peut accommoder jusqu’à 200 participants additionnels. Sécurité publique Canada s’intéresse surtout à la rétroaction des intervenants qui offrent des services aux personnes qui ont été incarcérées.
