[BCMA] New exhibition at Amelia Douglas Institute in Surrey: "Tân’si! Taanishi! Alo! Michif Languages Exhibition " opens September 9, 2026.

The Amelia Douglas Institute (ADI) is pleased to share our new “Tân’si! Taanishi! Alo! Michif Languages Exhibition ". This exhibition was developed by Amelia Douglas Institute, the Métis Nation BC’s Ministry of Culture, Heritage, and Language, and Lost & Found Design.

Come to the ADI Showroom in Surrey and see the first ever Michif languages exhibition in Canada. Open September 9 to December 31, 2026. Book a visit online at ameliadouglasinstitute.ca.

There are three Michif languages, commonly referred to as Southern Michif, Nothern Michif, and Michif French. Drawing primarily from Cree (Nehiyawewin) and French, with influences from Saulteaux/Ojibwe (Anishinaabemowin), English, and other languages, each Michif language reflects unique Métis histories, relationships, and ways of seeing the world.

The award-winning Amelia Douglas Institute is the centre of Métis culture and language resources in B.C. Our showroom is located in north Surrey and is easily accessible by skytrain and transit. Admission is a $5 donation and free for Indigenous visitors.
