More dates added! MOV is hosting Austerity Tours: How Decades of Funding Stagnation Affects the MOV⁠

Due to overwhelming demand, Museum of Vancouver<https://museumofvancouver.ca/> has added two more dates on October 17 for the Austerity Tours.

In 1994, there were a total of 24 applications from British Columbia to the Museums Assistance Program, and 23 of those applications were funded - a 96% success rate. Of those 23 successful applications, most organizations received between $30,000-50,000 (not adjusted for inflation).

In 2019, there were 11 successful applications in British Columbia to the Museums Assistance Program and aside from two museums that each received $140,000, most organizations received between $15,000-40,000. In roughly 30 years, the number of museums supported by this grant has dropped by half, and the amount of funding given to each organization has been cut by one-third due to inflation.

The Austerity Tours have struck a chord with people working in the arts, culture, and heritage sector because stagnant public funding and ever-increasing inflationary pressures are making sustaining our work and community impact feel impossible.
