ABOUT NSPIRG

NSPIRG-Dal (Nova Scotia Public Interest Research Group) is a non-
profit, non-partisan human and environmental justice research and 
resource centre. We are located in Room 314 of the Dalhousie 
Student Union Building. 

We are also an umbrella for 'working groups' such as ARCH (Animal 
Rights Collective Halifax), DalGreen, SCAW, Seymour Green, 
STAC/ZEN, and more. If you are interested in starting your own 
working group - we are here to help with resources and contacts.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Executive Director - Nova Scotia Public Interest Research Group

Experience and Skills

* Must have administrative experience and
knowledge of how to manage finances and fulfill
any other legal requirements of a non-profit
organization and a registered society
* Must have knowledge of human and
environmental issues and be able to deliver
public education workshops/lectures and
activities on a number of issues related to
human and environmental rights
* Must be able to use inclusive language
and to develop workshops that are age appropriate
and non-discriminatory, paying special attention
to being sensitive to culture, ethnicity, gender
and sexual orientation.
* Must have excellent interpersonal and
communication skills and be able to communicate
with people at many different levels of the
university administration, government, community
groups, students and people of all ages and backgrounds
* Must be resourceful and have a broad
knowledge base of a number of different
organizations in both the field of human and
environmental rights and the wider community
business/other professional organizations and agencies
* Must have experience with grass roots
community action initiatives
* Must be able to create and work in an
atmosphere that provides inclusive services and
maintain a non-judgmental approach when
communicating with the nspirg membership
and the wider community
* Must have experience in program/project development
and implementation
* Should have some experience with grant/proposal writing
* Should have an understanding of consensus decision making
* Familiarity with University environment
and student-run organizations considered an asset.
* Some post-secondary experience an asset but not required.

Duties/Responsibilities

* Overseeing the general operations of the office;
* Ensuring that staff are happy and able to do their jobs efficiently
* Ensuring that the finances are up to date
and must keep abreast of budget expenditures and
separate budget accounts, for example; nspirg working group accounts
* Develop and deliver workshops on human
and environmental issues for audiences of various backgrounds.
* Organizing board meetings
* Volunteer management
* Grant writing
* Must keep abreast of current human and
environmental rights issues to aid in
organizational development and research prioritizing
* Initiate and support community
initiatives that promote social and environmental justice
* Promote and publicize nspirg original
publications through a variety of venues and community wide activities
* Develop, implement and manage original nspirg projects

Position Salary: $25,000.00 negotiable
