Call for Nominations - Deadline March 20, 2006
8th Annual RRFB Nova Scotia Awards

RRFB Nova Scotia celebrates the 8th Annual Mobius Environmental Awards named
after the Mobius Loop, which is the international symbol for recycling. The
awards recognize the achievements of innovative Nova Scotians who have
helped make our province a leader in waste reduction, recycling and
composting.

Award winners will be recognized at the Mobius Environmental Awards luncheon
on April 27, 2006, which will be held during the East Coast Environmental
Conference at the Westin Hotel in Halifax.  The keynote speaker will be Dr.
Roberta Bondar, a well-known astronaut, physician and environmentalist. For

Nominations will be accepted until March 20th in the following award
categories:
Business of the Year
Institution of the Year
Industry Steward of the Year
Innovation in Waste Reduction
Waste Reduction Education
Individual Excellence in Waste Reduction
Region/ Municipality/ Authority of the Year
ENVIRO-DEPOT of the Year
Tire Retailer of the Year
School of the Year
Best Community-Based Project
Volunteer of the Year
Hauler of the Year

Business of the Year - Open to large or small, public or private sector
organizations that demonstrate:
* Leadership in waste-resource management
* Innovation in diverting materials from the waste stream
* Green procurement policies
* Significant diversion of waste
* Using recycled content in the products

Institution of the Year - Open to public or private sector institutions that
demonstrate:
* Leadership in waste-resource management
* Creativity in diverting materials from the waste stream
* Green procurement policies
* Significant diversion of waste

Industry Steward of the Year - Open to public or private sector industries
and associations that demonstrate:
* Leadership in waste-resource management
* Taking responsibility for waste generated through their industry’s
manufacturing process or marketing of products.

Innovation in Waste Reduction - Open to individuals from private or public
organizations that demonstrate:
* Development of products manufactured from waste-resource materials
* Innovative technology in waste reduction
* Entrepreneurial spirit

Waste Reduction Education - open to individuals, groups and municipalities
that demonstrate:
* Creative and effective environmental education approaches
* Development of imaginative environmental resource materials

Individual Excellence in Waste Reduction - open to individuals that
demonstrate:
* Leadership and commitment to the field of solid waste-resource management
or waste diversion
* Motivating others to participate in waste reduction, reuse, recycling or
composting initiatives
* Vision in significantly reducing waste from disposal

Region/Municipality/Authority of the Year - open to Solid Waste-Resource
Management Regions, Municipalities and Authorities that demonstrate:
* Innovative waste diversion programs
* Significant diversion of waste
* Commitment and effort in developing best practices in solid waste-resource
management

ENVIRO-DEPOT™ of the Year - open to Enviro-Depots that demonstrate:
* Creative marketing and educational programs that promote recycling and
waste reduction
* Efficient and accurate reporting
* Excellent customer service

Tire Retailer of the Year - open to Registered Tire Retailers that
demonstrate:
* Efficient and accurate reporting
* Excellent customer service

School of the Year - open to all Nova Scotia schools that demonstrate:
* Proactive environmental education
* Involvement of students in waste reduction programs
* Significant diversion of waste from the landfill

Best Community-Based Project - open to not-for-profit organizations that
demonstrate:
* Involving a significant number of people in a community environmental
project
* Reducing a large volume of waste through the project and/or creation of
innovative products

Volunteer of the Year - open to individuals and volunteer groups that
demonstrate:
* Commitment to environmental projects and organizations
* Ability to motivate others to participate in waste reduction, reuse,
recycling or composting initiatives

Hauler of the Year - open to individual and corporate waste haulers that
demonstrate:
* Best customer service practices
* Promotion of source separation of waste materials
* Multiple waste stream collection
* Excellent safety standards

Nominating Rules and Procedures
Nominations must be based on initiatives that occurred within the past year.
Nominees for all categories must reside in Nova Scotia.
Nominees for all corporate categories must have conducted business in Nova
Scotia within the last year.
Consideration will be given to nominees that demonstrate a strong social and
environmental conscience.
Nominees may qualify for any or all of the award criteria.
Awards will be presented in a category only if a nomination merits an award.
Nominations from RRFB Nova Scotia staff and board members are not eligible.

Nominees must consent to the nomination.

All nominations must be accompanied by a brief summary outlining why the
nominee qualifies for the award (500 word maximum). Where applicable,
quantities of material diverted from the landfill and sample products or
educational materials developed should also be included.

Deadline for Nominations

Nominations must be received by Monday, March 20, 2006.
