******** Young Naturalists Club Open House Day - June 3, 2006********
 - The Young Naturalists Club - a new nature club for kids age 8 and up who love to explore the natural world!

On June 3, you are invited to the Nova Scotia Museum of Natural History to get a taste for Young Naturalists Club meetings. Local experts on Nova Scotian birds, wildflowers, animals, plants and other natural phenomena will be on hand, displaying specimens, sharing their knowledge and leading fun activities. Drop in any time between 10am and 12pm to join in the fun!

In the afternoon, join Nova Scotian naturalists for a guided hike at Uniacke Estate Museum Park. The hike will be a great opportunity to see wildlife, chat with local nature enthusiasts, and see what Young Naturalists Club members will experience on field trips. Meet at the Uniacke Estate Museum parking lot (directions) at 2pm to take part in the hike.

The exciting new Young Naturalists Club will provide an opportunity for children 8 years old and up to connect with nature in a fun and informal way. Club members will learn about the natural world from hands-on experiences and interactions with mentors and experts in natural history. Starting in September 2006, the Club will meet once a month for indoor meetings and have a least one field trip per month.

In meetings, Club members will hear from engaging speakers about fascinating nature-related topics, and gain instruction in natural history skills such as how to use a field guide.

On field trips, Club members will go on hikes at nearby wild areas, led by expert naturalists. There will be opportunities for members to use their observation, identification, and environmental stewardship skills, and it will be a lot of fun!

All meetings and field trips will be free, thanks to the donations of time and money by supporting naturalist organizations.
