Declare your support for the protection of deep sea ecosystems!

To sign a petition in support of a moratorium on high seas bottom trawling (despite the position our federal government has taken), please go to: http://www.petitiononline.com/dragging/petition.html

1,452 scientists from 69 countries have signed a statement calling on governments and the United Nations to adopt a moratorium on high seas bottom trawling - why shouldn't you?

A short-term moratorium on bottom trawling on the high seas could provide protection to the extraordinarily rich, vulnerable and mostly undiscovered biodiversity of the deep seas until legally-binding conservation and management regimes can be developed, implemented and enforced.

Moreover, the socioeconomic impacts from such a moratorium would be low, as the global high seas dragging fleet is quite small (Canada, for example, does not even have a high seas dragging fleet).

For lots more information on why Canada and you should support this moratorium, check out the Deep Sea Conservation Coalition's website at: www.savethehighseas.org

Please sign the petition, and encourage others to do the same.
