Big Cove YMCA Camp is a residential camp in NS for youth

ages 7-17. We are located in Thorburn, NS, and we operate

out of the Halifax YMCA. Outtripping is our primary program

delivery along with our adventure environmental education

programs.



This year we are expanding our environmental initiatives,

and with this we are hiring an Environmental Director. We

are the oldest residential camp in Canada, celebrating our

119th season this summer!



With the addition of an Environmental Director we aim 

to maintain and build onto our strong environmnetal

initiatives.



Current environmental initiatives include:



- Vegetable Gardens to be used as earth education

programming and for meal preparations

- rainwater collection for irrigation of gardens

- donation of left over foods to local shelters

- working with local farms to supplement some 

of our mass-produce.

- Arts and crafts to use natural and re-usable materials.



The Environmental director will be responsible for

continuing our existing environmental initiatives, and

providing further creative programming for the youth who

attend. The Enviro Director will work closely with the Camp

Director. The option to work during the spring and fall is

available.
