CALL FOR NOMINATIONS

for the Executive Committee of the Sierra Club of Canada - Atlantic Canada
Chapter (SCC-ACC)

--------------------------

It is that time of year when we start to gather people interested in serving
on the Executive Committee of the Chapter (Executive Committee, Ex Com for
short, is what we call our Board of Directors). These are the people who
will lead our chapter and make decisions on everything from what campaigns
we take on to how our money is managed to where to hold our annual meeting.
We need your help in finding the right people to lead our chapter.

All members are hereby invited to make a nomination of any member (including
yourself) to be a candidate in the upcoming election for positions on the
Executive Committee of the SCC-ACC. Nominations will be used by the
nominations committee to put together a slate of candidates for this year's
election. We accept new members as nominees as well - so sign up and get
involved!

The term of office for these positions will be two years. On a practical
level, being an Ex Com member means taking part in at least 10 meetings per
year. These are usually about once per month (most by conference call) to
organize and run the business and activities of the SCC-ACC, including the
Annual General Assembly.

This may also involve taking on a position as an officer and/or chair of a
committee, and there will be continuous opportunity to be active in various
campaigns and projects.

As described in our bylaws, the responsibilities of members of the Ex Com
shall be: to assure that the activities and services provided for the
benefit of the members by the Chapter and its groups, sections, and other
entities comply and are consistent with the Bylaws and any Chapter Standing
Rules, policies and directives of the Board or its designees, the Bylaws and
Standing Rules of the SCC, and applicable law. Such activities may include
but are not limited to financial management, membership services, production
of publications, and conservation, outings and political programs. Authority
may be delegated to carry out such activities, but the Ex Com shall retain
overall responsibility and control.

March 31st, 2007 is the deadline for receipt of names for candidates to be
considered by the Nominations Committee.

Instead of being nominated through this process and the nominating
committee, candidates may also be added to the ballot through petition. The
name of any Chapter member proposed in writing by at least 15 Chapter
members prior to March 31st, 2007, and who gives consent, shall also be
included on the ballot automatically.

Members may also petition for a special election on issues (e.g. a policy to
be adopted). Ballot issues require 50 signatures of members, to be
submitted prior to March 31st, 2007.

Ballots will be mailed out to all members in the Summer edition of The
Sandpiper. We encourage all members to take part in this democratic
process!
