Sustainable Fisheries  Coordinator

The Ecology Action Centre (EAC) was established  in 1971 and is Nova
Scotia's largest and most active environmental  organization, with
over 20 full time staff and 1400 members. Our work  includes
sustainable transportation, marine, wilderness, forestry, urban
issues, sustainable food production, alternative energy, coastal
habitat  protection, green building education, and more.

Our Marine Issues Committee is seeking  an organized, self- motivated
person to fill the position of Sustainable  Fisheries Coordinator.
This position involves working on a collaborative  project with
Canadian and US marine conservation organizations. Candidates  should
have a good knowledge of Atlantic Canadian fisheries, and experience
in data collection and analysis. Experience working with or in the
fishing  industry is an asset. The successful candidate will work
closely with  and report to the Marine Conservation Coordinator, as
well as the project  organizing committee. The position is based at
the Halifax location  of the Ecology Action Centre.

Specific responsibilities of this  position are:
- Collaborating with other organizations in a national project
- Collecting baseline information on Atlantic Canadian Fisheries
- Standardizing and synthesizing data
- Assisting to organize national workshop on sustainable fisheries
- Meeting pre-determined deadlines
- Contributing to final report writing

Qualifications and skills required:
- Data exploration, collection and basic statistical analysis
- Planning and organizational skills such as managing priorities,
completing action plans, and working independently
- Demonstrated research skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work collaboratively and develop partnerships
- Excellent communication skills including writing skills and people skills
- Knowledge of the Atlantic fishery
- An understanding of marine conservation issues
- Experience working in nonprofit, volunteer-driven organization

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
 Time: 18 months, full time. Starting February 15th 2007 (start  time
firm) until June 2008.  Salary: $18.50 / hr ($36,000.00 /  yr).
