Amnesty International “Close Guantánamo” March and Vigil

Who: Those who care about human rights! All are welcome!

What: “Close Guantánamo” March and Candlelight Vigil

When: Saturday, January 27 6:30 – 8:00 pm (March begins at 6:30 pm, arrives
at US Consulate at 7:30 pm.)

Where: Meet at Victoria Park (Spring Garden and South Park) at 6:30 pm,
march to the US Consulate at Purdy’s Wharf

Why: The US detention centre at Guantánamo Bay is an open attack on human
rights. It is a place of cruelty, no fair trials and people locked up for
years without being fairly charged with any crime. We demand “human rights
for all, no exceptions!” See www.noexceptions <http://www.noexceptions/>
for more information. Please join us as we march to draw attention to the
plight of Guantánamo detainees. We’ll have five “detainees” in orange
jumpsuits and hoods, and postcards, petitions and Close Guantánamo signs
available for participants.

Volunteers are needed to wear the five orange jumpsuits and black hoods,
hand out postcards, get petitions signed and carry banners and signs.
Please consider helping out and let me know at amnesty at ns.sympatico.ca
<mailto:amnesty at ns.sympatico.ca> .

Please wear orange!

Some participants wish to meet downtown for a bite to eat or a coffee at
8:15 pm following the vigil. If interested, please contact me for details.

I hope to see you all there in support of this important issue!
