Position: Ecology Action Centre Steer Clean Program Coordinator (full-time) 
Location: Ecology Action Centre´s fantastic new office in the North End of Halifax, NS 

The Ecology Action Centre (EAC) was established in 1971 and is Nova Scotia´s largest and 
most active environmental organization. Our work includes sustainable transportation, 
marine, wilderness, forestry, urban issues, sustainable food production, alternative energy, 
coastal habitat protection, green building education, and more. 

Our Transportation Issues Committee is seeking an outgoing, organized and self-motivated 
person to fill the position of Steer Clean Program Coordinator. This position involves the 
marketing, reporting, evaluation and day-to-day management of the Steer Clean vehicle 
scrappage program. 
For further information on Steer Clean´s work to improve air quality by providing Nova 
Scotians information and incentives to move their old cars off the road visit:

Specific responsibilities of this position are: 
*   Ensure the smooth operation of the Steer Clean program and its project goals by 
    responding to public inquiries and ensuring removal and disposal of retired vehicles 
*   Implement and supervise program marketing and public education 
*   Manage the program within a defined budget and meet funders´ reporting 
    requirements 
*   Network with other community groups, sponsors, funders, and vehicle scrappage 
    programs elsewhere in the country 
*   Explore funding and sponsorship opportunities for future air quality programs 
*   Carry out a program evaluation at the end of the financial year 
*   Respond to relevant media inquiries 
*   Facilitate networking and support between other related programs (both internal and 
    external to the EAC) 
*   Report to the EAC´s Transportation Issue Committee and attend their monthly 
    meetings 
*   Participate in and support the overall work of the EAC 

Qualifications and skills required: 
*   Excellent project management and organizational skills such as budgeting, setting 
    priorities, completing action plans, and working independently 
*   Excellent communication skills including writing skills and people skills 
*   An understanding of the environmental issues related to active and sustainable 
    transportation and air quality (?) 
*   Experience working in nonprofit, volunteer-driven organization 
*   Computer literacy 
*   Experience with proposal writing and development 
*   Experience in marketing and developing partnerships 
*   Experience with the media, French language skills, would be assets 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 
Full-time (37.5 hours per week) at $17.95 per hour. 
Position starts August 8th 2007 and runs until March 31st 2008, with the possibility of a one 
year contract renewal contingent on funding.
