GPI Atlantic is seeking a part-time Administrative Assistant

Position: Administrative Assistant
Reports to: Managing Director
Start date: as soon as possible
Approximately 15 hours per week, daytime hours
$13/hour

Job Summary
GPI Atlantic is seeking a dynamic, experienced, organized and adaptable
individual to fill the position of Administrative Assistant and help ensure
that our many projects run smoothly. The Administrative Assistant works
directly with the Managing Director and also assists other GPI Atlantic
staff. The Administrative Assistant will work from a home office located in
Halifax.

About GPI Atlantic
GPI Atlantic is a non-profit, charitable organization. It conducts research
that supports the development of an index of wellbeing and sustainable
development (the Genuine Progress Index). Work is focused on Nova Scotia and
Atlantic Canada, with attention given to other regions of Canada and
elsewhere as opportunities permit. GPI Atlantic hopes to achieve a better
understanding within the general public of the relationship between
environmental, social and economic aspects of life. It works with partners
such as universities, municipalities, non-governmental organizations and
federal and provincial governments. It publishes and publicizes research
results in order to achieve public education and dissemination of
information.

Duties
.	Assist with event planning and coordination (workshops, press
releases, meetings, etc.)
.	Respond to phone and email questions, invitations, requests, etc. 
.	Draft correspondence and other documents
.	Maintain files and other records
.	Organize GPI Atlantic resources (books and other publications,
films, newsletters, etc.)
.	Proofread and edit material for accuracy and completeness
.	Occasional research assistance may be required (such as locating and
compiling data, fact-checking, finding references)
.	Manage GPI Atlantic members and donors, including writing thank you
letters, updating information in the database and other tasks as required
.	Assist with maintaining and updating the GPI Atlantic website
(includes adding new content and making minor modifications)
.	Maintain and update GPI Atlantic contact database (includes entering
and updating contact information, creating and managing forms and queries,
creating and sending mail merge documents, and other tasks as required)

Skills and Qualifications
.	Demonstrated administrative skills and experience is essential;
experience in website design and/or graphic design an asset
.	Highly organized, flexible, and adaptable
.	Comfortable handling multiple tasks and activities at the same time
and prioritizing work
.	Excellent verbal, written and editing/proofreading skills
.	Strong interpersonal communication skills
.	Excellent computer skills (e.g. MS Word and Excel, email programs,
etc.)
.	Professional presence and demeanour
.	Able to work well both with others and independently, and with
minimal supervision
.	Interest in and commitment to environmental and social justice
issues.

Note that this is a part-time flexible position. Hours may vary from week to
week depending on work load. Possibility for eventual increase to full-time
hours.
