Some local items of interest, including notices from EAC about upcoming
events and projects. But starting with tragic news yesterday from
downtown Halifax:

*Accident on Barrington Street claims cyclist’s life

*

A Halifax bicyclist was killed Thursday morning after he was hit by a
transport truck travelling in the same direction.

The accident took place just before 9 a.m. on Barrington Street near
Cornwallis Street.

Halifax woman loses appeal to keep natural meadow on her property*

It seems ironic that the very day Catriona Campbell lost her appeal to
preserve the "small and wonderful ecosystem" in her yard, a local
newspaper ran an article with the headline: "If it makes us greener,
taxpayers are willing to pony up."

Campbell's yard, which she refers to as a "meadow," is environmentally
friendly - it requires no electricity or fossil fuels to mow, no treated
water to keep green, and offers a refuge for insects and birds. It also
costs taxpayers nothing - at least until the bylaw officers and city
councillors became involved.
