Atlantic Climate Change Conference:
Risks, Responses, and Tools for Action
Halifax, Nova Scotia March 2008
For registered delegates, the Atlantic Climate Change Conference will:
· present insight into climate change risks;
· provoke discussion on actual and potential responses;
· examine methods to account for climate change risks in decision making;
· consider options and opportunities in responding to climate change risks;
· offer decision making tools to address risks and opportunities.
Climate change outcomes involve managing risks, practical responses, and opportunities for taking appropriate actions. The Atlantic Climate Change Conference is being organized by the Environmental Services Association of Nova Scotia (ESANS), the Climate Canada Atlantic network, and Dalhousie University. The conference will be of interest to the private and public sectors, civic organizations and associations, infrastructure designers, and decision-makers. It will link researchers, practitioners, engineers, planners, business associations, civil servants and business managers.
The conference will present key-note speakers, presentations, papers, and panel sessions that provide useful, practical and locally applicable insights. Workshops will focus on strategies and actions that can be adopted by local government, infrastructure decision- makers, and business. Poster presentations and trade show booths will highlight local research and capabilities. The conference will also include an evening public lecture.
The conference program is being developed, and selections are being made on the presentation topics, speakers, and sponsorships. Presentation topics on the management of potential climate change risks are anticipated to include energy choices, mitigation options, adaptation tools, carbon markets and other economic instruments, natural resource management, corporate and public policy, and infrastructure decision-making.
