EOS Eco-Energy/Eco-Énergie will again host the Solar Shelter Design course
in Sackville, NB.
This course is a practical, how-to course on designing and building solar
shelters, including greenhouses, solaria, additions and especially solar
homes. This course is intended for the general public and for those in
design and construction.
The main instructor is one of Canada's most experienced solar
designer-builders, Don Roscoe, with Solar Nova Scotia.
The course outline is:
(1) Solar Basics- active and passive, an affordable approach.
(2) Climate Control- for comfort and health, energy and the environment
(3) Site Designing- working with nature
(4) Shelter Designing- bringing you, your needs, and your site together
(5) Solar Construction- ground frost insulation, heat storage slabs, glazing
types and systems and solar mechanicals
(6) Making It Happen- costing, controlling costs, contracting, doing it
yourself, case studies, and other approaches.
The course will be held on Friday February 15 to Sunday February 17 in Room
118 in the Avard Dixon Building of Mount Allison University. The sessions
begin at 7 PM on Friday evening and 9 AM on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
The sessions end at 9 PM on Friday and at 5 PM on Saturday and Sunday.
Friday evenings presentation is considered a public presentation that is
free for the public. Beverages are provided, but please bring a box lunch
or eat at one of the local restaurants or takeouts.
Fee for the course is $90 for individuals and $150 for couples and includes
a hand out. If you don't have a textbook (The Solar Shelter Manual) already,
you can buy one from EOS before the course or at the course for $15. Fees
can be paid by cheque, payable to EOS Eco-Energy, or in cash on Friday
evening.
