Small organizations can raise big money by applying some easy to understand grassroots fundraising principles. These principles focus on building a base of individual donors and developing a broad set of strategies to invite all kinds of people and all sizes of donations into your organization. Easy to understand doesn't mean easy to implement, and an organization has to be willing to work hard to have the money they need. This workshop will take you through the principles of grassroots fundraising, show you how to build a team of people who will help you raise money, let you practice the process, and show you the ins and outs of the most common and successful fundraising strategies. This workshop is co-sponsored by the Atlantic Council for International Cooperation, Coastal Communities Network, New Brunswick Environmental Network, and the Nova Scotia Environmental Network.



Leadership: Kim Klein is internationally known as a fundraising trainer and consultant. She is the author of Fundraising for Social Change (now in its fifth edition, 2006), Fundraising for the Long Haul (2000), which explores the particular challenges of older grassroots organizations, and Ask and You Shall Receive: A Fundraising Training Program for Religious Organizations or Projects, Raise More Money (2001) which she edited with her partner, Stephanie Roth, and Fundraising in Times of Crisis (2004). She is a member of the Building Movement Project and leads workshops on tax policy and the importance of the "commons", as well as being a regular contributor to their website. She is the Chardon Press Series Editor at Jossey-Bass Publishers, which publishes and distributes materials that help to build a stronger nonprofit sector, and the founder of the bi-monthly Grassroots Fundraising Journal. Widely in demand as a speaker, Kim Klein has provided training and consultation in all 50 states and 21 countries. 

Eric Tusz-King has spent a lot of time fundraising, through his participation in non-governmental organizations over the past several decades. He is a founding member of Community Foundation for Rural Nova Scotia and is a past Board Member of the Community Foundation of Southeastern New Brunswick. Through his work with Maritime Conference of the United Church, Eric was also responsible for raising funds for congregations and special projects. In the last year, he has become the manager of EnerGreen Builders Cooperative that builds energy efficient housing.
