Position: School Programs Coordinator

Falls Brook Centre (http://www.fallsbrookcentre.ca) has
an opening for a bilingual highly motivated, self-directed
person to work as the School Programs Coordinator at
Falls Brook Centre.

position will require a dynamic individual who can jump into
their role as a puppeteer at one instance and at the next
prepare and deliver a professional training for teaching
and school administration staff on topics such as school
sustainability, biodiversity restoration and climate change.
This person has post-secondary training, preferably in
environmental sciences, and is very comfortable with a range
of educational methodologies. A Bachelor of Education degree
would also be considered a strong asset. He/she is a quick
and eager learner, can handle several tasks at once, and is
equally at home handling workshop logistics as searching
Scientific journals for critical information.
>From broad direction on a project, he/she can discern
priorities, establish tasks to be done, carry them out with
minimal supervision, and meet deadlines. He/she is a good
organizer and communicator (bilingualism is necessary -
French and English), is comfortable with public speaking,
and above all, wants to work as part of a dedicated team of
staff at Falls Brook Centre. The School Programs Coordinator
is someone who has a vibrant personality and is able to
energize students, youth and others while at the same time
being able to create new education programs for encouraging
ecological integrity, cultural viability and economic
livelihoods. The person would also be able to communicate
and develop curriculum based materials for teachers in
French and English.

Falls Brook Centre is a site-based organization with a
long-term vision of re-creating a village like lifestyle in
this part of rural Carleton County, New Brunswick. Currently
we are an education and training centre working with
outreach and education programs that have an environmental
focus. We work with school groups, youth groups and with
our Local School District 14.
We are interested in hiring someone who is able to make a
longer term commitment, someone who has come to a point
in their life where working and living in a rural area and
building up the Centre and the land is an idea that
resonates with their own life interests. All skill areas
being equal our preference is to hire from the Maritimes.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree with a preferred background in
environmental studies or science, a Bachelor of Education
would be considered an asset.
- Interest in and experience working with youth of various
ages
- Experience leading workshops in a classroom setting and on
field trips
- Ability to develop and deliver creative learning programs
based on curriculum objectives
- Demonstrates teamwork, creativity, flexibility and
leadership
- Strong program management skills (administration,
coordination, networking, reporting and securing future
funding)

Duties
- Develop and deliver quality environmental education
programs in schools and on field trips
- Research curriculum objectives and integrate feedback from
learning specialists and teacher evaluations for education
programs
- Promote Falls Brook Centrte resources during public
events, environmental networks and educator meetings.
- Reporting, evaluations and proposal writing for current
and future programs
- Schedule and coordinate education events
- Communication with media, community partners and
teachers.
Salary: $26,000/yr 51 weeks Start date: August 1st. 2008
