Pesticide Inspector Position


Background:
 
Clean Nova Scotia is implementing Halifax Regional Municipality's
Property Pesticide Application Assessment Program this summer. This
program requires a Pesticide Inspector to respond to applications from
homeowners who wish to use pesticides on their lawns to determine
whether they have an infestation that merits a permit. In addition, this
staff member will provide information to homeowners on lawncare
alternatives and respond to homeowners inquiries. Presentations to store
employees are also required. Employment is full-time for three months.
 
Responsibilities include:
*	Inspect homeowners' lawns to determine if they have an
infestation that merits a pesticide permit, i.e. approve or deny request
to spray pesticides
*	Talk with homeowners about the alternatives to pesticide use
*	Record all information accurately
*	Co-ordinate schedule with other staff
*	Respond to phone call inquiries as required
*	Conduct presentations as required
*	Complete reports as required
*	Complete tasks within required time frame
*	Maintenance of website may be necessary
 
Qualifications:
*      Bachelors of science, biology, chemistry, environmental science,
agriculture, or other environment-related degree and/or equivalent
environmental experience (students in 3rd or 4th year are welcome to
apply)
*      Knowledge of horticulture, entomology, sustainable lawncare,
gardening, etc.
*      Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
*      Excellent organizational skills
*      Detail-oriented
*      Ability to answer questions from the general public
*      Ability to work well in a team environment
*      Good computer skills and experience with common software packages
*      Project coordination experience an asset
*      Experience developing and delivering educational material
considered an asset
*      Valid drivers license and vehicle required
