The Invasive Species Alliance of Nova Scotia (ISANS) is

looking for a motivated, outgoing Coordinator to guide 

them in their first year of formal operation. If you are

passionate about Nova Scotia's natural environment and 

have outstanding people skills, we want to hear from you!



CONTRACT HIGHLIGHTS

10 month position (Mid-May 2009* -- end March 2010), 

with possibility of extension; flexible hours; approximately

$20/hour plus benefits; 25+ hours/week, with time and event

based flexibility; based at the Acadia Centre for Estuarine

Research (ACER), Acadia University, Wolfville, NS.



The ISANS Coordinator must be committed to increasing 

the awareness and understanding of invasive alien species 

in Nova Scotia, stressing the importance of prevention 

and early detection.



Coordinator Role:

* Report to the ISANS Steering Committee

* Fill the ISANS Steering Committee Secretary Position,

attend meetings, and take minutes

* Lead the establishment of an identity for ISANS,

including logo design and website development

* Lead the development of a 5-year workplan for ISANS

* Assist the ISANS Steering Committee and Working Groups 

in implementing first-year activities, including but not

limited to, development of species lists, outreach

materials, and web resources

* Participate in and contribute to several regional and

national invasive species initiatives (includes some travel)

* Organize 2-3 free public mini-workshops

* Seek and pursue funding opportunities for the continued

operation of ISANS, and the implementation of specific projects

* Report to funding agencies



Coordinator Skills:

* Post-secondary training in biology, ecology or

environmental sciences

* Knowledge of and/or experience with invasive alien

species in Atlantic Canada

* Familiarity with An Invasive Species Strategy for Canada (2004)

* Familiarity with the purpose and roles of invasive alien

species councils

* Proven grant writing and reporting skills

* Ability to work with and engage sometimes competing and

diverse interest groups

* Ability to work independently and as part of a team

* Excellent written and oral communication skills,

including preparation and delivery of presentations to

large, varied groups

* Conference and workshop planning skills

* Strong computer skills and hands-on knowledge of database

development and maintenance

* Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs, including Publisher

* Experience with website design an asset

* Availability to travel and work flexible hours as required

* Valid driver's license required, access to vehicle preferred
