NSEN Award Ceremony on February 27, 2009 - All Welcome!
from  3:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. at  Nova Scotia Public Archives, 6016 University
Avenue, Halifax.  Join us at 3pm for the award ceremony with cake and
speeches. All welcome to celebrate our NSEN ECO-HERO AWARD WINNERS FOR 2009.

1) Nickerson Lifetime Achievement: 
Rudy Haase, long-time Friends of Nature

2) Eco-Heroes Group of the Year: 
Lincolnville "Save Lincolnville" against the landfill in Guysborough

3) Eco-Hero Environmentalist of the Year (Individual): 
Peggy Cameron, renewable energy expert and passionate environment activist

4) Cole Award in Excellence in Environment and Health:
Ron Zima and the Children's Clean Air Network 

5) Marshall Award for Aboriginal Environmental Leadership: 
Albert Marshall, Aboriginal elder from Eskasoni, Cape Breton

6) Youth Environmental Leadership Award: 
Mindshift, environmental youth project

7) Award for Environmental Political Will: 
MLA Keith Colwell, Liberal Environmental Critic for his work with the
community to stop tire burning, to raise concern on biosolids and for being
a friendly and accessible politician who is concerned about environmental
issues

8) *NEW AWARD* Langille Honour in the Woods Award 
Inaugural winner awarded posthumously to Pam Langille of Eastern Shore
Forest Watch who worked on sustainable forest issues and protected areas.

Guest speaker Julie Stinson, Antigonish Sustainable Development. Find out

Social Movements in Central America & Latin American Cuisine. Saturday,
March 14 from 2-5pm  with interns Emma and Becky who spent 5 months in
Honduras. More details to come.

Save the Date! Premiere screening of the new film "SENSE OF WONDER: The Life
of Rachel Carson" on Weds. March 25 at 7pm at the Al Whittle Theatre in
Wolfville. In Celebration of International Women's Day. More details to
come.

Book Club "Go Green: How to Build An Earth Friendly Community" 
Saturday, April 4, 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. 
Alderney Gate Library, 60 Alderney Dr., Dartmouth. Join NSEN for the first
community book club and study circle. Read the book and join us for this
community study circle - only 60 seats. The book is available to borrow from
HRM libraries and to buy at Outside the Lines Bookstore on Quinpool St. and
P'lovers Environmental Store on Spring Garden Rd.
