Position: Climate Change - Renewable Energy Coordinator

Job Description:



The Climate Change Coordinator will work at Falls Brook

Centre to develop Climate Change programs and new renewable

energy projects and maintain existing renewable energy systems:



1. Participate in a team to facilitate Climate Change and

Renewable Energy Outreach programs within the St. John River

Valley, NB.

2. Participate in a team to design appropriate methodologies

for delivery of educational programs promoting renewable

energy and energy efficiency to rural residents, farmers,

youth and First Nations communities.

3. Help plan for and implement a community-based wind energy

project.

4. Maintain and repair existing renewable energy systems at

Falls Brook Centre, including five off-grid solar power

systems, three small wind turbines and one grid-tied, net

metering solar and wind power demonstration site.

5. Propose new renewable energy projects or energy

conservation projects on-site or with our local and

international partners. This may include designing a project

for our annual renewable energy workshops.

6. Maintain and repair educational, hands-on displays about

climate change and renewable energy on our Climate Change

Bus.

7. Occasionally drive the Climate Change Bus, with another

member of the team, to schools and festivals and explain the

concepts of climate change and renewable energy to people of

all ages who will visit the Climate Change Bus.

8. Help complete project proposals and reports.

9. Explain renewable energy systems -- how they work and how

to use them well -- to other staff, interns, volunteers, and

visitors.

10. Other tasks as may be required from time to time.



Qualifications Required



* Degree in engineering, natural sciences, environmental

sciences or a related field of study, or a diploma in a

related trade such as electrical or renewable energy. Proven

field experience in renewable energy systems could be

considered to meet this qualification;

* Demonstrated experience and/or interest in pollution

reduction, climate change and renewable energy development;

* Strong interpersonal and presentation skills;

* Strong, proven public outreach skills



Prerequisites - Applicants must:



* Be a Canadian Citizen or landed immigrant

* Be aged 25 or over;

* Have a valid driver's license;



General Qualifications Required:

* Candidates must be self-motivated, dynamic, well

organized, and be able to function under pressure and handle

numerous tasks simultaneously.

* Understanding and experience in working on sustainability

and environmental issues;

* Knowledge of electrical wiring and renewable energy/energy

efficiency equipment an asset;

* Knowledge about current issues surrounding the Kyoto

Protocol, climate change and energy efficiency;

* Computer skills including Office (Word, Excel), e-mail,

Internet;

* Excellent communication skills, both oral and written;

* Experience working with school groups, youth and

children;

* The ability to communicate in both English and French

would be an asset;

* Must be willing to work on some evenings and weekends;

* An ability to meet deadlines, be flexible in new

situations, and to deal well with change;

* Excellent health and fitness;

* Must be able to live with wood heat, spring water, and a

rural community living experience;

* Past experience writing proposals a definite asset;

* Experience completing energy efficiency assessment on

farms or homes an asset.



Remuneration: $30,000

FALLS BROOK CENTRE (FBC) is an environmental community

development demonstration and training centre in rural New

Brunswick. Located on 400 acres of farm and forestland, 

FBC works to demonstrate the practical application and

implementation of sustainable development. Appropriate

technology applications of solar energy, wind energy,

composting and recycling models, as well as 7 km of fully

marked forest trails, an arboretum, herbarium and a forest

museum bring visitors on a regular basis. With a solar and

wind powered conference centre, FBC is able to host small

meetings and provide accommodation and certified-organic

catering for up to 25 people on-site. Falls Brook Centre has

four main program areas: forest stewardship, sustainable

agriculture, appropriate technology, and community
