Position: Organic Agriculture Coordinator

Organization: Falls Brook Centre http://www.fallsbrookcentre.ca

Location: Falls Brook Centre, New Brunswick, Canada



Terms and Conditions of Service $29,000/yr

April 1, 2010 and onwards dependant on funding available and

program growth



Job Description:



Land Management

Manager of on-site certified organic agriculture facilities

in conjunction with other FBC staff

- 2.5 acres of market/kitchen gardens, herbariums, greenhouses, 

small and large fruit orchards for on-site consumption

- Oversee shiitake mushroom project and sales

- Develop and initiate long-term plans for orchard

development (pruning, pest management)

- Develop and initiate plans for animal husbandry



Mentorship

- Mentor international interns in field and project work

- Coordinator of WWOOF activities



Administration

- Maintain organic certification (OCIA) and application

- Coordinate FBC Organic Farm Apprenticeship Program

- Fundraise and proposal writing for new projects



Outreach and Education

- Represent FBC at Agriculture events

- Network with the local and regional organic network

(farmers, government and resource personnel, NGO's and other

farm organizations)

- Deliver activities and seminars to group tours

- Contribute to local newspaper column and FBC newsletter

- Maintain agriculture webpage content



Skills pertinent to the position:

- Previous background in organic agriculture at production

level in Canada

- Farm management, farm background

- Ability to work as part of a team and to mentor others in learning

- Good public speaker and outreach educator

- Ability to communicate in French and Spanish an asset

- Marketing and sales of organic products

- Experience with Animal husbandry

- Proposal writing and fundraising

- Focused, dedicated, self-motivated



Additional skills/interests that would be an asset:

- Forest management interest

- Develop plans for trail improvement and maintenance

- Forest certification

- Non-timber forest product development

- Entrepreneurship

- Some international experience

- Interest in living and working in a rural area of the Maritimes

- Desire to build a lifetime of commitment in a rural area and

rebuilding a viable rural lifestyle
