INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY



Position: Organic Farm Interns

Organization: Horse and Garden Farm

Location: Sweets Corner, West Hants, Nova Scotia, Canada



Horse and Garden Farm is entering its 3rd year producing a

wide variety of greens and vegetables, a raspberry u-pick to

open this year and a hay crop. The farm will certify organic

this season.



We are in the midst of reviving an old farm that had been

abandoned many years. In addition to our gardens, projects

abound! including construction projects, fence building,

re-shingling, painting, cleanup in our small woodlot and

along fencelines, creating perennial gardens and maintaining

active compost windrows.



Located in the beautiful St.Croix valley near Windsor NS, we

provide to several local restaurants, 2 farmer's markets and

this year, will offer a 25 member CSA Community Supported

Agriculture program.



The farm will welcome 4 interns this season (May 1 - Oct 31)

two of whom are already confirmed. To complete our team, 

we are now seeking 2 interns with practical mechanical and

carpentry skills, as well as an interest in organics and

permaculture. The ability to drive a standard transmission

is essential and comfort and experience with the tractor and

implements and farm machinery in general is a real asset.



The farm offers accomodation, meals and - with any luck - a

bonus to interns at end of season. Accomodation is provided

in 2 comfortable 18' travel trailers overlooking the farm

pond and river, with outdoor privy and shower. A bunkhouse

project is underway.



We are located centrally in an area with several organic

farms and cooperate with others on projects and with an

active social life.



The farm offers a great opportunity to work hard and play

hard, learn through doing and through demonstration, take

initiative and responsibility and see all aspects of a small

farm start-up. The area is well known for its musical events

and jams, great swimming holes and beautiful vistas. We 

are located 45 min. from Halifax.
