EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
Position: Green Job Coordinator
Organization: Sierra Club Canada - Atlantic Chapter http://www.sierraclub.ca
Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia
The student will build on existing knowledge and connections
to conduct a research study to determine the potential for
green jobs in Atlantic Canada. The student will collaborate
with organizations and individuals concerned with economic
opportunities and social justice issues such as GPI
Atlantic, labour unions, Nova Scotia Community College, and
Halifax Coalition Against Poverty. The student will also
work closely with experts in the School of Resources and
Environmental Studies at Dalhousie University and civil
servants at the municipal and provincial level.
Working with these groups and under the supervision of the
Chapter Director, the student will research the potential
for green jobs in Atlantic Canada and develop
recommendations for creating green jobs and evaluate
obstacles and opportunities in the green job sector. Key
tasks will include initiating and coordinating monthly
meetings of an advisory group, meetings with key officials
and experts, researching and evaluating economic data, and
writing a report on key findings.
Pay Rate and Term: $9.20 / hour for 35 hours per week
for 10 weeks.
Qualifications:
* Ability to read and write English fluently, while French
would be considered a strong asset.
* Background in subjects including environmental studies,
economics or social science.
* Experience working with volunteers and youth an asset.
* Must have an understanding of MS Office programs and
experience with Microsoft Powerpoint is essential.
* Interest in website maintenance an asset.
