Summer Student Position Technician- Information Systems
The Atlantic Council for International Cooperation (ACIC) is a coalition of
individuals, organizations, and institutions working in the Atlantic region,
which are committed to achieving global sustainability in a peaceful and
healthy environment, with social justice, human dignity, and participation
for all. ACIC supports its members in international cooperation and
education through collective leadership, networking, information, training
and coordination, and represents their interests when dealing with
government and others.
ACIC also takes a leadership role in engaging Atlantic Canadians around
issues relating to international development, global sustainability, and
social justice. Through our public engagement work, ACIC strives to give
Atlantic Canadians the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to become
active global citizens.
ACIC is looking for a Technician Information Systems to join our team. The
incumbent will be responsible for providing analysis, monitoring systems
performance, communicating and resolving issues, website and database
development, testing, training and the identification, recommendation and
implementation of appropriate solutions technologies.
Responsibilities:
* Perform a survey of current information systems
* Analyze data and information systems in consultation with staff
and in accordance with needs
* Perform system and software evaluations to ensure that systems
operate efficiently and effectively
* Design database system to assist in communications activities with
organizational membership
* Design interactive applications for existing website
* Conduct training and support for staff on-going as required
* Regular maintenance of Printers/Computers/multi-media devices
* Schedule and run Updates/Virus protection/MS updates
* Assist and make recommendations in the development and
implementation of policies and procedures
* Provide input into organizational decisions regarding the
purchasing of new software and hardware using knowledge of latest trends and
applications
* Manage inventory, including assessment and possible disposal of
redundant equipment
Desired Experience, Skills and Qualifications:
* College / University studies in an IT discipline
* Knowledge of NGO international development and community groups in
the Atlantic
* Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office applications; Excel and
Access software
* Knowledge of PC platforms, Internet services, LAN technologies,
hardware, multi-media devices, website design and development (Dreamweaver,
WordPress, HTML, Javascript) and database development (Access, SQL)
* Superior investigative skills and demonstrated abilities in
troubleshooting.
* Excellent planning, problem-solving and time management skills.
* Strong attention to detail with a regard for quality &
professionalism
* Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
* Ability to communicate technical concepts verbally and in writing
to a non technical audience
* Strong project management, analytical and organizational skills
* Excellent training skills; able to ascertain skills and aptitude
of various user groups and ensure technology and training is provided to
meet organizational needs
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills (ability to present
in terms understandable to the audience)
* Experience managing IT in a non-profit environment an asset
Eligibility:
To be eligible to participate in Canada Summer Jobs, individuals must:
* be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
* have been registered as full-time students in the previous
academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the
next academic year;
* be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or persons to whom
refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee
Protection Act; and,
* be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant
provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
Location: The position will be based at ACICs office in Halifax.
Salary: $12.00/hour for a 10-week contract (June 16 August 24), 35 hours
per week
