About the Sierra Youth Coalition
Sierra Youth Coalition is a Canada-wide, diverse non-profit

youth arm of the Sierra Club of Canada. Through grassroots
action, Sierra Youth Coalition aims to address environmental
and social sustainability, by focusing on environmental
integrity, social equity and economic prosperity. Our
organisation reflects the belief that all things are interconnected.
Sierra Youth Coalition formed in 1996 with a vision of
involving Canadian youth in pressing environmental issues.
Since then, it has grown into a national youth environmental
coalition with members and volunteers across all regions of
Canada, and local groups operating out of schools,
universities, and communities across the country.
Project description
The mission of the Community Youth Action Project is to
create and support an inclusive and respectful community of
empowered youth. CYAP provides youth with the skills,
resources, and support they need to develop critical
thinking skills and a unique way of applying them to their
passions. The project brings together youth from diverse
backgrounds to a safe space that promotes and embodies
environmental and social consciousness and encourages
healthy and sustainable individuals and communities. The
project also emphasizes the importance of acknowledging and
accepting local circumstances and realities (i.e. gauging
the social and environmental). Youth leave the program
infused with the ability to develop grassroots actions that
affect and include the greater community.
Part of the way we do this is through our Youth Action
Gatherings: weeklong skills and leadership building camps
which aim to increase understanding of environmental and
social justice issues, offer trainings on the skills

connected network of empowered youth.
