JOB DESCRIPTION
Position: NLEE Marine Environmental Education Researcher
Type: full-time, paid internship (YEIP eligibility requirements, see below)
Organization: Whale Release and Strandings http://newfoundlandwhales.net
Location: Portugal Cove - St Phillips, Newfoundland
This position is pending successful funding.
* Identify groups involved in marine Environmental Education in NL
* Research, contact and collect information from groups and individuals involved in marine environmental education in NL
* Encourage membership in NLEE of marine environmental educators
* Gather information regarding successful NL related marine education programs and activities and make accessible via electronic means
* Explore funding programs and work with the NLEE board to prepare submissions for funding
* Review NL K12 curriculum outcomes to find marine related outcomes and those that could be marine related
* Website updating, brochure preparation
* Plan informal meetings regarding marine environmental educators on the NE Avalon and Clarenville areas
* Organize training programs for marine environmental educators
* Organize day to day office operations including answering emails, phone calls and simple budgeting
* Write letters to teachers, letters to the editor regarding sustainable education and how it relates to marine education in NL
* Liaise with NL Teachers Association regarding increasing marine environmental education in NL
Applicants must meet ALL eligibility criteria for the program in order to be considered: between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the time of placement; not receiving Employment Insurance benefit; a graduate of a post-secondary education program; be unemployed; or underemployed (working 20 hours or less on a regular basis); or working in a job that does not match your area of educational study; out of school; a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee status has been conferred; legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations; have a social insurance number; willing to complete a Police Records Check.
