Paid Position: Operations Supervisor Organic Farm - April 15 - Nov15, 2011

Location: Windsor, Nova Scotia



Horse and Garden Farm is a small, organic producer (ACO) of mixed vegetables and fruit located on a 75 acre riverfront farm near Windsor, Nova Scotia. With one and a half acres under cultivation, we are entering our 3rd year of commercial production. During 2011 we will offer a 50 member CSA Harvest Share, attend weekly Farmers Markets and produce hay both for sale and our own use. We also have a 2 year old raspberry stand for upick and value added.



Qualifications:



- 2-3 years experience in organic field work

- proven ability to assume responsibility

- an established work ethic

- enjoy and work well with others

- ability to organize time and people, and to direct work projects

- ability to create work plans and meet deadlines

- tractor skills and experience



Duties:



- oversee the general farm field work and haymaking

- manage on farm compost windrows

- lead and train farm interns in organic principals

- assemble Harvest Shares & prepare produce for market days

- operate farm machinery as needed

- maintain daily logs and reports (harvest and equipment use)

- start transplants early on and through-out the season ( mini-greenhouse)

- attend Farmer's markets, and participate in training workshops and events

- attend regular meetings and participate in future planning for the farm



Guidance and resources will be provided by the owner as well as other mentors and experienced growers who actively participate in the Farm's development.
