Clean Nova Scotia is currently seeking one individual with
background/experience in biology/environmental studies and stream
restoration. This individual will supervise and carry out field work
including Stream Surveys, Habitat Assessments and Stream Restoration work on
various waterways in the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM). This is a term
position ending September, 2011.



Since 2006, Clean Nova Scotia has been expanding its focus on water to
include restoration and monitoring. The Coordinator will lead a field team
to carry out stream restoration work throughout the summer. In addition,
data will be collected to monitor habitat and water quality and compare pre
and post-restoration results.

*Responsibilities include:*

·      Leading a field team to carry out stream restoration;

·      Conducting stream restoration work (digger logs, rock deflectors,
debris removal, riparian planting, etc.); and

·      Conducting Habitat Assessments including but not limited to
macroinvertebrates, plants, fish and wildlife.



*In addition, as with all Clean Nova Scotia staff, the Coordinator will be
required to:*

·      Attend staff meetings and working group meetings;

·      Submit reports, timesheets, and expenses as required;

·      Provide information to landowners and users; and

·      Assist other staff as required.

*Qualifications:*

·      Some post-secondary education in biology/environmental studies and/or
*equivalent experience*

·      Knowledge/experience in habitat surveys, water quality monitoring,
stream restoration

·      Willingness to work in the field under various conditions

·      Hard-working and reliable

·      Leadership

·      Good communication skills (written and verbal)

·      Physical fitness

·      Ability to multi-task and prioritize

·      Current first aid and CPR

·      Current valid driver’s licence in good standing



*The following qualifications are desirable, but not mandatory:*

·      Direct Stream Restoration experience

·      Operation/interpretation of a YSI meter

·      Macro invertebrate identification and sampling techniques

·      Arc Map or GIS experience

·      Own vehicle an asset
