*FALLS BROOK CENTRE*

*Save the Date: The Falls Brook Free School
will take place on July 15, 16 and 17, 2011!*

* ***

*For immediate release*

Following two years of great success, Falls Brook Center is hosting a third
edition of the Falls Brook Free School. This year the event will be held
over on July 15th, 16th and 17th at Falls Brook Centre in Knowlesville, New
Brunswick and as always, everyone is invited to participate in a weekend of
sharing skills, ideas, and summer sunshine.

*
*

*What is a Free School?**
*It is a chance to come together and share skills, discussions and ideas as
a broad group of participants from across New Brunswick and the Maritimes in
a free exchange of knowledge and good will. Inspired by the Tatamagouche
Free School, which has been revolutionizing education every summer since
2005, the Falls Brook Free School is based upon the premise that everyone is
a teacher, and that we all have a lot to learn. Teachers become students and
students become teachers as they move from session to session; everyone has
the chance to sit back and listen and to have a turn showing others what
they know. With a variety of discussion groups, seminars and hands-on
skill-building workshops being offered, diverse learning needs are met:
there is something for everyone at a Free School!
*
**Why?**
*We were amazed last year at the diversity and depth of workshops, seminars
and discussions that arose at our very first Free School: from changing a
car tire properly to building a wind turbine, to learning about local media
to sustainable forestry to knitting, we discovered a vast store of knowledge
amongst our friends and neighbours that we rarely have a chance to tap into
through day-to-day interactions.

With an annual Free School, Falls Brook Centre hopes to provide a gathering
place for local people to build their community by sharing skills and ideas,
and by celebrating together in the summer sun! This is a chance to learn
something new and explore our 400 acres of farm and forest land, dance and
listen to music at the Concert in the Barn, and make connections with people
who have a diverse array of skills and talents to share.Free Schools is
based on the premise that everyone is a teacher and we all have a lot to
learn. Unlike regular school, all participants are invited to be the
teacher and give a workshop or lead a discussion of their choice. In this
way, there is a free-flowing exchange of knowledge, experience and ideas.

The Falls Brook Free School hopes to bring together youth, families, elders,
professionals and amateurs alike to share their knowledge and of course have
fun while doing so.

Because each teacher volunteers to lead a class or talk about a topic of
their choice, each year’s schedule is a little bit different. Therefore,
coming to the 2011 Free school edition is a chance to learn something new,
explore our 400 acres of farm and forest land, dance and listen to music at
the Concert in the Barn, and make connections with people who have a diverse
array of skills and talents to share.
