ACAP Cape Breton Celebrates Bras d'Or Biosphere with East Bay Sandbar Blitz
Sydney, NS -ACAP Cape Breton is inviting Cape Bretoners to actively
celebrate Canada's 16th biosphere with clean-up on the shores of the
beautiful Bras d'Or. On Friday, September 16th at 2 PM, ACAP staff will be
providing bags and gloves to all helping hands at the East Bay sandbar. The
clean-up is taking place in conjunction with local and national celebrations
through the Bras d'Or Biosphere Celebrations and the Great Canadian
Shoreline Clean-up.
The UNESCO biosphere designation of the Bras d'Or Lakes and its watershed
calls upon communities to protect biodiversity while fostering economic and
social development. In following this idea of stewardship of our waters and
coastlines, ACAP Cape Breton has also joined the annual Great Canadian
Shoreline Clean-Up which encourages cross country shoreline health by
removing litter and raising awareness.
Together, Cape Bretoners can help maintain the health of our island's
watersheds and shorelines. ACAP is encouraging everyone to take an active
role in the celebrations and in community stewardship this weekend and all
year long. For more information, please contact Susan King, Executive
Director, at 567-1628 or sking at acapcb.ns.ca.
The Atlantic Coastal Action Program (ACAP) Cape Breton is a non-profit,
charitable community organization. Located at 582 George Street in Sydney,
this dynamic group integrates environmental, social and economic factors
into projects focusing on action, education and ecosystem planning.
