Type: 3.5 month contract position

Job Description:
The ACORN Conference Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating certain aspects of the ACORN Conference, including coordinating all of the conference registration, volunteer
recruitment and coordination, organizing the silent auction, procuring local organic food for conference meals, as well as helping with outreach and other tasks related to hosting a
conference.
Specific Work Tasks and Responsibilities:
Registration Coordination: Act as the first point of contact for ACORN Conference
registration. Organize a system for processing hundreds of registrations in the most efficient manner. During the conference, take charge of all registration coordination, including name tags, conference welcome packages, food registration etc;
Volunteer Coordination: Recruit 60-70 volunteers for the various conference tasks. Organize a volunteer schedule and ensure the successful delivery of all volunteer activities. Activities include registration, childcare, tech support, note-taking, set-up, etc;
Event Coordination Assistant: Assist in the coordination of various events during the
conference, including Seedy Saturday, ACORN Silent Auction, ACORN Conference Kick-off
event, 100% Organic Banquet, as well as helping with promotion and outreach;
Qualifications:
Conference and/or event management experience;
Excellent communications skills, written and oral;
Demonstrated registration management experience;
Volunteer coordination experience;
Experience working with a team in a volunteer environment;
Confidence in office technology trouble-shooting (ACORN uses a Mac-based system) and information systems and databases;
Demonstrated involvement and / or educational training in fields related to organic agriculture, farmer training, the food system and/or the environment.
Public relations and promotional skills;
New media skills (web-updating, and social media)
Job Details:
This is an 3.5 month contract that will require working from the ACORN office in Sackville, New Brusnwick. In addition, it will require a flexible schedule including some travel (mostly in Prince Edward Island) with occasional demands outside the regular work schedule, in particular prior to and during November 22-24, the ACORN Conference event dates.
Salary: Commensurate with experience starting at $12/hour
Start Date: August 27th, 2012
