Announcement and Call for Poster Abstracts
Sustainability and Environmental Research Symposium 2012
McInnis Room, Student Union Building

2:00 - 7:00 pm
The 8th Annual Sustainability and Environmental Research Symposium will take
place on Friday, March 9th, 2012, from 2:00 to 7:00 pm. The Symposium is an
exciting and unique event that brings together students and faculty from
Nova Scotia universities and colleges to showcase their research
accomplishments and celebrate the depth and breadth of research on
sustainability and the environment. The Symposium also provides an
opportunity for other organizations, institutions and members of the public
who working on environmental issues to learn more about academic research on
sustainability and environment issues and there are opportunities to
showcase their own work.
Keynote: Dr. Nancy Wells
This year's keynote address about School Gardens and Children's Health will
be given by Dr. Nancy Wells, an environmental psychologist in the Department
of Design & Environmental Analysis at Cornell University. Dr. Wells studies
the effects of the built and natural environment on human health and health
behaviors throughout the life course. Her presentation will focus on the
role of school gardens as an approach to improving nutrition, increasing
physical activity, and expanding ecological literacy in children.
Call for Abstracts
We are calling for abstracts from interested students, faculty and members
from non-academic organizations who to present their research on the topics
of environment and sustainability to a large and diverse audience. Please
submit author name(s), poster title and an abstract of 200 words or less via
email to chris.bates at dal.ca. Abstract submissions are due March 2, 2012.
Symposium Awards
Student participants who present their research posters are eligible to
receive a number of awards recognizing their achievement in sustainability
and environmental research.
Celebrate Contributions to Sustainability
All participants of the Sustainability and Environmental Research Symposium
are welcome to join us for a networking reception following the poster
review and judging.
