Job Description

The NB ACORN Coordinator will be responsible for the management and implementation of ACORN's New Brunswick project, titled: Strategic Provincial Market Access Development and Implementation for Organic Products.

The main objective of this position is to work with organic producers to implement the priorities listed in the NB Organic Strategic Plan (2010-2013). The most critical project objective for this position will be to identify, cultivate and capture new market opportunities for NB organic products. The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with primary and secondary food suppliers, and with any establishments (such as retailers) procuring organic products. This project will also support collaboration with the goal of increasing sector capacity to take advantage of new market opportunities, including shared infrastructure and logistics. In addition, this project will encourage producer innovation for on-farm production techniques in order to capture competitive markets--such as a coordinating a workshop about season extension to increase year-round availability. Overall, the NB ACORN Coordinator will be responsible for increasing market access to New Brunswick or
 ganic food products.

Specific responsibilities
Project management: The incumbent will have the overall responsibility for the implementation of the project goals identified, as well as adhering to the project budget, timeline scheduling, and final project reporting.

Budgeting: Managing all of the finances associated with the project, including recording all project income and expenses in a detailed budget spreadsheet.

Grant Writing and Reporting: Write and submit project proposals to government and industry for funds to achieve project results. Actively manage implementation of proposal activities and write reports to meet project requirements.

Public Speaking and Facilitation: Organize and facilitate monthly conference calls with NB Organic Committee and develop and deliver workshops promoting organic integrity and sourcing local organic foods to provincial retailers.

Research and Analysis: Scan and compile information about scale-appropriate collaborative/co-operative marketing and distribution models as well as any other collaborative efforts that could be implemented in New Brunswick. Analyze data, write reports and articles and communicate results to stakeholders. Create and distribute surveys and collect and analyze results.

Event Coordination: Coordinate various events to connect the sector, including: forums for discussion, workshops to increase farm capacity, on-farm tours, farm-chef tours and many other events.

Material Design and Promotion: Create content for and design promotional materials to increase access to and understanding of New Brunswick organic products.

Qualifications:
- Extensive project management experience;
- Excellent communications skills, written and oral;
- Demonstrated financial management experience;
- Confidence in office technology and trouble-shooting (ACORN uses a Mac-based system);
- Bilingualism a strong asset
- Demonstrated involvement and / or educational training in fields related to organic agriculture, farmer training, the food system and/or the environment.
- Public relations and promotional skills;
- New media skills (web-updating, and social media)
- Valid driver's license

Job Details:
This is a full-time ~15-month contract position that will require some travel (mostly in New Brunswick) with occasional demands outside the regular work schedule.

Salary: Commensurate with experience

Start Date: Mid-March, 2012
