The NSEN, under the leadership of the Executive Director, performs a unique coordinating function for environmental organizations from across the province. They are a vital connection to the diverse and rich organizations in this province; people working towards common goals, who through the network share expertise, resources, volunteers, solicit support, avoid duplication and coordinate efforts.

NSEN also supports the working groups among our members who meet on common issues such as Environmental Education, Water, Law & Policy, and SENSE: Sustainability Education in Nova Scotia for Everyone.

NSEN also organizes events, capacity-building workshops, annual gatherings, award ceremonies, and round tables to support the work of our members. NSEN is a regional affiliate of the Canadian Environmental Network (http://www.cen-rce.org). The Executive Director reports directly to the NSEN Board of Directors, made up of representatives from member organizations. ABOUT NSEN:
NSEN was established in 1991 and is a non-profit organization registered provincially under the Society Act. The network is comprised of non-governmental environmental and health groups whose common purpose is the conservation and enhancement of the natural environment and the pursuit of a sustainable future for Nova Scotia. There are approximately 60 environmental organizations in the Network.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

The Executive Director will be responsible for performing the following:
• Fundraising
• Communication & Member Relations, including the coordination of the monthly e-newsletter.
• Office Administration and financial management (with the help of paid bookkeeper).
• Supervision of volunteers & staff.
• Organization of annual events such as: The Annual Gathering, The Round Table & Awards Ceremony.
• Specifically, the NSEN Board of Directors has identified the following top priorities for the NSEN in 2012-2013:
• seek diversified and sustainable funding sources;
• assist with the development of a new business plan;
• and assist the Programs Committee in identifying and maintaining key member services.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Fundraising experience
• Knowledge about and interest in environmental issues in Nova Scotia
• Proven ability to multitask and work under stressful conditions and tight deadlines 
• Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills
• Non-profit management experience
• Proven ability to think both strategically and to pay attention to small details
• Experience working with volunteers
• Proficiency with office and information technologies
• Public outreach and engagement experience
• Clean drivers license required
• General understanding of governmental structure and environmental legislation (asset)
• Web site maintenance -- experience with HTML and PHP (asset)
