Today - A GREEN ECONOMY: NO WARSHIPS! A Rally for Earth Day
Monday, April 22
3:00-4:00 p.m.
Outside the Irving Shipyard, 3099 Barrington St., Halifax
At the Niobe Gate Entrance near Devonshire Avenue
A rally in support of Earth Day. The federal and provincial governments
should be investing tax dollars in a green economy to take action on climate
change and to protect our air, water and soil instead of wasting billions of
tax dollars on warships that are not a priority. Canada needs a green,
peaceful economy for a sustainable future.
Find out more at www.demilitarize.ca

*For Earth Day, I’m delivering an open letter to MP Megan Leslie, the NDP’s
Environment Critic, asking her why she supports warships and why warships
are a priority over taking action on climate change and poverty. I am
standing outside her office with my signs “No Warships: Green Jobs” today at
noon. You can read my open letter to Megan here: www.demilitarize.ca

NEW REPORT LAUNCH! OUT OF CONTROL: NOVA SCOTIA’S EXPERIENCE WITH FRACKING
FOR SHALE GAS
April 22, 2013 at the Kennetcook Fire Hall, 7:00pm.
The Nova Scotia Fracking Resource and Action Coalition has spent almost two
years reviewing Freedom of Information documents, and making sense of what
happened with Triangle Petroleum's shale gas project in Hants County. This
is a fascinating report that outlines what happened, what didn’t happen and
how decisions were made. If you live in these areas, if you live near these
areas, if you live far from these communities, you should know what
happened. The report will be available online after this event.
The launch will include a presentation by the author of the report, and
short perspectives by several residents of Windsor Block communities,
followed by a Q and A.

Description: Emerging technologies and the Implications for Change in
Healthcare, Education, Governance and Commerce
Speaker: Perry Kinkaide, MSc, PhD, CMC, Founder & Past-President, Alberta

-What does education look like in the face of Massive Open On-line Courses
(MOOCS)?
-How do Healthcare providers serve the new informed and skeptical client?
-Where do regulatory forces come from in an increasingly deregulated global
society?
Technology is profoundly changing the shape of society and its underlying
economic base. The implications for production, trade and employment call

BE SURE TO TAKE LEAD NOW’S EARTH DAY PLEDGE
This Monday, Leadnow is launching an educational program that aims to
support people in becoming better allies with Indigenous peoples across
Canada. After much discussion with my Leadnow team and Idle No More
organizers, we determined that the most important thing we can do this Earth
Day is to commit to become better allies with the Indigenous communities
across Canada. If you could help us out by doing one (or both!) of these
things, it would greatly help to amplify our campaign launch on Monday and
reach a greater audience of people taking part in becoming a better ally.

1) Can you take a photo of yourself this weekend holding a sign saying "I
will learn skillsforsolidarity.ca" and send your photos to photos at leadnow.ca
(creativity is welcomed!)? *further info here:
http://action.leadnow.ca/ea-campaign/action.handleViewInBrowser.do?templateI

2) If you are going to an Earth Day/Idle No More event can you collect a few
signatures of people in your community that might be interested in becoming
better allies? and take a photo of them with your "I will learn
skillsforsolidarity.ca" sign? *further info here:

DEMILITARIZE: http://www.demilitarize.ca
BLOG "Wednesdays against Warships": http://demilitarize.ca/wp/

"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired
signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not
fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not
spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius
of its scientists, the hopes of its children." - Former US President D.
Eisenhower, 1953
