Position: Summer Field Program Coordinator
Type: full-time 5-month contract, April - August 2013

The Nova Scotia Nature Trust is seeking a full-time contract Summer Field Program Coordinator to assist with conservation efforts in the summer of 2013.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Summer Field Program Coordinator is expected to manage the collection, organization, and disbursement of data from several Nature Trust volunteer field programs. This person will also assist in a range of conservation work, including assisting project coordinators with project management for the Endangered Species Project and the Land Stewardship Program. This work is dynamic and includes a wide range of duties.

Project work -- Bird's Eye View
• Research and develop data management system for the Bird's Eye View Program.
• Organise birding volunteers to conduct site visits.
• Design program materials.
• Liaise with conservation partners to learn best practices for volunteer data collection
programs.
• Establish data vetting system.

Project work -- Volunteer Plant Monitoring Program
• This volunteer program is run in collaboration with partner organizations: the Mersey Tobeatic
• Research Institute and Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site. Activities include:
• With partners, coordinate and assist with volunteer training sessions (in ACPF
identification and in the monitoring program protocol).
• Assist with volunteer organization, communication, and support.
• Collect and vet data from volunteers, and input it into a database.

Project work - Coastal Greenprint data gathering
• Locate and collect ecological data from Nature Trust conservation partners.

Other general Nature Trust work
• Assist and accompany project coordinators on field visits where required.
• Assist with organization of public events (such as presentations, guided walks, public
meetings and celebrations) including assisting with the preparation of correspondence,
advertisements.
• Participate in public educational events (guided walks, property celebrations, etc.).

Requirements:

• Experience organizing and managing biological data sets
• Experience working with volunteers
• Public event organization
• Written, interpersonal, and oral communication skills
• Strong organizational skills
• Experience with field work including navigating with topographical maps, aerial photos, and a GPS
• Valid driving licence

Assets

• Bird identification skills
• Experience with bird or flora related organizations or groups within Nova Scotia
• Experience with citizen science/volunteer field data collection programs
• Proficiency in the Microsoft suite, as well as social networking sites
• Experience importing and managing data in GIS

Education:

A Post-secondary degree in Biology, Environmental Science, or Environmental Studies
(or equivalent experience)

Remuneration/Term:

This position is a full-time contract from 2 April 2013 to 30 August 2013. The remuneration is $16 - 18/hour.
