Coastal Information Hub Content Developer - Atlantic Coastal Zone Information Steering Committee (ACZISC) Secretariat
The ACZISC was established in 1992 to foster cooperation in Atlantic Canada with regards to integrated coastal and ocean management (ICOM), coastal mapping and geomatics. The ACZISC is actively:
- Networking and disseminating information via meetings and thematic workshops, the Coastal Update e-newsletter and the website.
- Engaging stakeholders in the establishment of COINAtlantic - the Coastal and Ocean Information Network - in support of ICOM in Atlantic Canada.
- Participating in studies and projects to further our understanding of the coastal zone.
The ACZISC holds three meetings per year in the Atlantic provincial capitals by rotation. The ACZISC membership includes the four Atlantic Provinces, eleven federal departments/agencies, community organizations, NGOs, the private sector, and academia. Position Description:
The Coastal Information Hub Content Developer will assist the ACZISC Secretariat in researching and updating the ACZISC's website coinatlantic.ca. Research will be conducted on selected themes to build content and linkages to ICOM resources available online. Updates will be made to the website via the content management system Joomla.
In addition, the student will participate in the design and development of a new website for the International Coastal Atlas Network (ICAN) and time permitting the CoastGIS International Science Committee.
Qualifications:
- A student currently enrolled in a post-secondary program and returning to school in September.
- Experience with website design and maintenance and/or using website content management systems.
- Knowledge of the coastal and ocean sector, its stakeholders and agencies.
- Knowledge of ICOM, the marine sciences, geomatics and associated organizations.
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
- Length of position: 9 weeks beginning the week of 23 June 2013.
- Remuneration: 30 hours per week at $12.30/hour plus 4% vacation pay.
- Employment Requirement: This position is funded in part by Employment and Social Development Canada through its Canada Summer Jobs Program. Applicants must be: returning to school in the fall; between 15 and 30 years of age; and either be Canadian citizens, permanent residents of Canada or an official refugee.
Priority will be given to students with disabilities, aboriginal students, or students who are members of a visible minority and who meet the desired qualifications.
