The Organization
The Clean Annapolis River Project (CARP) is a charitable, non-governmental organization with a vision of ecologically healthy watersheds. CARP is based in Nova Scotia's beautiful Annapolis Valley with newly renovated offices situated in the historic town of Annapolis Royal. CARP's mission is to enhance the ecological health of the Annapolis River watershed through science, leadership, and community engagement. Since its creation in 1990, CARP has grown to be one of the most respected community-based, independently minded, environmental management groups in the region. The group has a proven track record of success through collaboration with local, regional, national and international partners. CARP prides itself in making independent, ethical decisions by putting scientific research and fact ahead of outside pressures and influence.
Duties
CARP is seeking an energetic, creative innovator with entrepreneurial drive and professionalism to fulfill the role of Executive Director. The Executive Director is responsible for the overall management of the organization under the direction of a volunteer Board of Directors. The specific duties include:
Overall leadership and management of CARP's programs and activities.
Providing technical support for all of CARP's programs and activities.
Providing direct oversight of the financial operations of the organization.
Responsibility for project proposal development, implementation and on-going management.
Identifying and exploring new opportunities consistent with the organization's mandate.
Relationship building with government, partners, funders, members and key stakeholders.
Promoting the organization to a wide diversity of audiences.
Responding to inquiries from local, regional and national media.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
A background within the interdisciplinary fields of environmental science with an equivalent academic degree or certificate and or (≥ 5years) work experience within a field of environmental science.
Experience (≥ 5years) in working within a team oriented environment with proven management and leadership skills.
Excellent communication and media skills to include: report and proposal writing, social media management and public speaking to a wide variety of audiences.
Experience in grant proposal writing and formal fundraising considered a strong asset
Experience in financial management considered a strong asset
Exhibits entrepreneurial drive and can apply business expertise within a non-profit organization.
Community minded and respectful individual.
Possess a genuine interest and dedication to the ecological well being of a watershed.
Compensation and Time requirements
This is a full time, permanent salaried position based at CARP's offices in Annapolis Royal. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualification (between $45,000 and $55,000). Frequent local and regional travel is required, as well as, occasional national and international travel. The ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends is required. Anticipated start date is August 2014.
